What is The Learning Center?

The Learning Center staff assesses the needs of our students with learning differences to ensure that their accommodations are provided in the classroom. The Learning Center collaborates with faculty, staff, students, and families to address the learning needs of any student who requires academic support within and beyond the classroom.

Accommodation Plan Services

Any student who has a diagnosed learning difference has a customized accommodation plan created for their specific learning needs. Plans include classroom accommodations, guidelines for standardized testing, and student progress goals.

Preschool

Speech and OT Therapy

Francis Parker partners with Functional Therapy to provide speech and occupational therapy services to students on campus. Functional Therapy will provide full evaluations to referred students at their clinic, and then therapy services during the school day, if needed. Lower School

1:1 and Small Group Reading Intervention for Grades K-4

Students who are not meeting grade level benchmark goals will receive reading intervention three (3) times per week for 20 minutes each session. Sessions will be recommended and scheduled after benchmark assessments are given at the beginning of the year. This is a fee based service.

1:1 and Small Group Math Tutoring for Grades 2-4

Individualized tutoring sessions are offered to help students succeed with current skills and concepts as well as re-teaching previous skills, as needed. Meeting one (1) time a week for 40 minutes. This is a fee based service.

English Language Support

Students who are dual language learners can receive 1:1 or small group instruction in conversational and survival oral English fluency alongside basic written communication skills. The number and frequency of sessions will be determined based on the student’s individual needs. This is a fee based service.

Middle School

1:1 and Small Group Content Tutoring

These are weekly sessions designed to help students with specific class needs such as Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, or Science. Small groups are based on grade-level. These sessions are scheduled on a quarterly basis and meet once a week for 40 minutes. Additional sessions can be added as needed. This is a fee based service.

English Language Support

Students who are dual language learners can receive 1:1 or small group instruction in conversational and survival oral English fluency alongside basic written communication skills. The number and frequency of sessions will be determined based on the student’s individual needs.This is a fee based service.

Well-Organized Wyverns

This is our executive function coaching service. Students will work with their coach on skills including goal setting, time management, planning, and prioritization. Students will develop a personalized organizational system that works for their needs, build metacognition skills, and improve working memory. Students will meet in a class period designated based on their grade level twice a week for approximately 20 minutes. This is a fee-based service. 

High School

1:1 and Small Group Academic Support

These are weekly sessions designed to help students with planning, time management, organization, task-initiation, goal-setting, and problem-solving for all school assignments with an emphasis on personal areas of academic challenge. Small groups are based on grade-level. These sessions are scheduled on a quarterly basis and meet once/week for 45 minutes. Additional sessions can be added as needed. This is a fee-based service.

1:1 and Small Group Content Tutoring

These are weekly sessions designed to help students with specific class needs such as English, History, Math, Spanish or Science. Small groups are based on class similarities. These sessions are scheduled on a quarterly basis and meet once a week for 45 minutes. Additional sessions can be added as needed.This is a fee based service.

1:1 and Small Group PSAT/ACT Prep

These are weekly sessions designed to prepare and challenge students to take the PSAT and ACT while in high school. The focus will be on how to read test questions, pick the best response, and how to decode different sections of the standardized exam. These sessions are scheduled on a quarterly basis and meet once a week for 45 minutes. Additional sessions can be added as needed.This is a fee based service.
