The award-winning Francis Parker Theater Arts program is proud to present Summer Alumni Show VI – Robert Harling’s beloved Steel Magnolias!

This summer’s performance is the sixth in a series of Francis Parker alumni shows produced and directed by Theater Arts Director Reed Gabhart. These alumni productions feature students who have attended the Preschool – 8th grade campus in Goshen and/or the High School in downtown Louisville. Two previous productions, Almost, Maine and The Breakfast Club, won National Youth Arts Awards for Best Ensemble in the Eastern U.S. in 2015 and 2017, respectively.

Steel Magnolias is perhaps best known for the Academy Award-nominated 1989 movie with a blockbuster cast. Pivoting around the lively Truvy Jones’ Louisiana beauty parlor, a tightly-knit band of friends confront grief, loss, life’s unforeseen tragedies, and heartaches with what they do best: gossiping and sharing. The spirited diabetic and bride-to-be, Shelby; her always supportive mother, M’Lynn; Truvy’s gawky assistant, Annelle; the local curmudgeon, Ouiser; and the town’s former first lady, Clairee, are the warm Southern belles who know how to survive life’s challenges with their unwavering friendship. But when Shelby decides to have a baby, things turn upside down and their bonds are tested when the ladies face a life-changing event.

Performances are Friday, July 28 and Saturday, July 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the Goshen Campus Theater (11000 U.S. Highway 42, Goshen, KY 40026).

All Francis Parker students (Preschool – 12th grade) and faculty/staff receive a complimentary show ticket. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for non-Francis Parker students. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. Cash, credit cards, and checks are accepted. Note: Steel Magnolias is recommended for rising 7th grade students and above.
