And she’s off! Angela Ponzio, a Middle School Spanish teacher at our School, is this year’s recipient of the Henrion Professional Development Travel Grant. This annual grant is awarded to one Wyvern faculty or staff member for international travel and study. The purpose of the grant is to rejuvenate and learn abroad over the summer.

Angela’s proposal – and realized trip – is to participate in The Camino de Santiago or “The Way of St. James.” This is a pilgrimage of Medieval origin to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, in the North West of Spain. People of all ages, nationalities, and backgrounds walk El Camino de Santiago routes each year. The Camino is a path to greater self-discovery, as well as the chance to embrace a new challenge! There will be miles and miles of sunshine and rain, of cold and heat, of grueling physical exertion and moments of peaceful, internal reflection and blissful rest. Angela will be able to finally visit and admire historic sites and monuments, and peregrinate through a variety of landscapes such as coasts, vineyards, tiny hamlets, and mountains.

Safe travels, Angela! We can’t wait to hear about your journey.
