“Camp Curious” at Francis Parker

Welcome to Summer Camp 2023! Come and experience 64 acres of summer fun in Goshen (plus a few options at the High School, too!) during Francis Parker’s “Camp Curious” summer camps! We welcome all students in the Louisville area to explore, learn, and develop through small camp sizes and expert teachers in a nurturing and exciting environment!

Thinking about making the switch to Francis Parker? “Camp Curious” is a wonderful way to experience our School and see if Francis Parker is right for your family!

Our Preschool half-day camps are open to children ages two through rising kindergarten. Campers must be two by June 1, 2023 in order to participate. Our camp curriculum builds on developmentally appropriate activities that promote early literacy and critical thinking. We provide learning experiences that build confidence, independence, social skills, and conflict resolution skills. We spend the majority of our
time outdoors, weather permitting. Drop-off begins no earlier than 8:45 a.m.

Session 1 – Adventures in Wonderland ($250) FULL

June 5 – June 9
9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
This week is full of adventure as campers kick off the summer full of wonder. Campers will make an adventure cape, paint with loose parts, create magic potions, assemble hand puppets, and more!

Session 2 – Pathfinders ($250) FULL

June 12 – June 16
9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Camp in Goshen lends itself to exploring nature! We’ll make clay snakes for the garden, learn about helper insects, and study critters found outdoors in Kentucky. Campers will explore trees and some of the animals that live in them. This week will be chock-full of nature walks, scavenger hunts, and outdoor learning!

Session 3 – Treasure Hunters ($200) FULL

June 20 – June 23 (No camp on Monday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth.)
9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Get ready for adventure! Dino digs, pirates on the Ohio River, and scavenger hunts are on the horizon for this session of camp. We will excavate for dinosaur fossils, rescue animals missing from the Preschool, and look for a hidden treasure. Note: This camp fills up quickly, so secure a spot sooner rather than later for this one-of-a-kind experience!

Session 4 – Buckets + Boots ($250) FULL

June 26 – June 30
9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Bring your rain boots and we’ll provide the buckets! Campers will make mudpies, create nature impressions in potter’s clay, hike to the heart-shaped rock to collect items for the potter’s clay, and investigate what they can build in our sandpit with water and loose parts!

Splash Days

What would summer be without splashing in a little bit of water? On Wednesday of each week, campers will enjoy sprinklers, splash pads, and water tables, and we will experiment with different types of water play throughout the day. Please send your child to camp in water play clothes/swimsuits. Campers should also bring a towel and a change of clothes.

Our Goshen Campus is the perfect spot for our “Camp Curious” K – 6th grade full-day camps! Rising kindergarten through 6th grade students are welcome to participate. With space to grow, campers will experience 64 acres of summer fun through outdoor activities and field games, stimulating science and creative art activities, engineering and team-building challenges, music, theater, and more!

Session 1 – Hello, Summer! ($250) FULL

June 5 – June 9
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
School is out! Let’s play! This week will be devoted to what campers love best about summer – the great outdoors! Campers will explore our 64 acres where there will be limitless opportunities for adventure and activities. We will enjoy a little bit of this, a little bit of that, and a whole lot of fun designed to kick-start summer! Hello, summer!

Session 2 – Let’s Get Creative! ($250) FULL

June 12 – June 16
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Budding artists will need to dig deep as we explore creative outlets and sharpen our skills this week. Campers will spend time using watercolors to create a portrait of water that we will explore while catching a morning breeze. We will find inspiration from Andy Warhol and Vincent van Gogh as we use oil pastels and chalk to create self portraits. We will create handmade instruments using what we find to make music. We will conclude the week by working as a group to create acrostic poems and a short play. Creativity abounds in this week of art exploration!

Session 3 – Cultural Cravers ($200)

June 20 – June 23 (No camp on Monday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth.)

Get ready to embark on a cultural journey this week as we learn about different world cultures! Campers will enjoy exploring interesting cultures through cuisine, art, music, activities, and more. Each day we will focus on a different culture, gaining deeper knowledge and appreciation for the world around us!

Session 4 – Full STEAM Ahead ($250) FULL

June 26 – June 30
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
During a week of STEAM camp, we don’t just learn science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. We make it. We create it. We build it. Campers will participate in a variety of activities, including science experiments, engineering challenges, and math-inspired artwork. We will use problem-solving and creativity to feed our senses, develop critical thinking skills, and most of all, have fun!

Session 5 – I Win, You Win, We Win! ($150)

July 5 – July 7 (No camp on Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4 in observance of the Fourth of July.)
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
3-2-1-GO! In this camp, the more, the merrier, as we play as many games as we can! In teams or solo, campers will enjoy playing board games, card games, and outdoor games including classics like capture the flag, all forms of tag, water balloon challenges, and hide and seek. With an emphasis on strategy and teamwork, this week is going to be a blast with everyone going home a champion!

Session 6 – I Spy With My Little Eyes ($250)

July 10 – July 14 
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Get ready for a fun and meaningful experience where campers show the world through their lens. We will try our hand at self-portrait photography, landscape and architectural photography, creating backdrops for portrait photography, and videography. We will focus on building teamwork and comradery by choosing and working on specific projects together. This is a wonderful project-based learning opportunity!

Session 7 – H2-Oh My! ($250) FULL

July 17 – July 21 
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Water, water, everywhere! Get ready for a week filled with tons of water. The week will be spent enjoying water activities, playing water games, and doing water experiments. While the focus for campers will be playing with water in order to beat the heat, we will wind down summer with fun activities that will make everlasting memories. This week is sure to be a splash!

Session 8 – Summer Jamboree ($250) FULL

July 24 – July 28 
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
It’s our last week of “Camp Curious” for summer 2023! In this session, we’ll do a little bit of this and a little bit of that, taking our favorite activities throughout the summer and reliving those enjoyable moments. Squeeze in some last-minute fun before coming back to school in August! Stay tuned, as this week includes a themed day complete with a random flash party!

Dungeons & Dragons ($210)

Rising 5th – 9th Grade
June 5 – June 9
9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Dungeons & Dragons is a tabletop game of teamwork, creativity, imagination, and overcoming adversity. It can be adapted and tailored to a variety of players, interests, and skill levels with simple concepts that can span increasing complex rules as players grow more familiar with the system and game play. We will build our own characters and set off on an adventure for fame and glory! From novice to master, all are welcome!

Musical Theater Camp ($600)

Rising 5th – 9th Grade
June 5 – June 16 (two weeks)
9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Ideal for campers with a passion for theater, this two-week program encompasses everything necessary to produce a musical. Campers have the option to perform or work on the crew. This year’s production is The Addams Family and culminates in a production for family and friends.

Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family whom her parents have never met. She confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before– keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on a fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents. 

Celebrate the wackiness in every family with the best-selling Broadway musical adapted for middle-school-age performers that is sure to give your camper a wonderful stage experience this summer!

Sew Fab: Fashion Design Camp ($175)

Rising 5th – 8th Grade
June 26 – June 30
9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
This week-long camp will have students engaging with the world of sustainable fashion. We will be working with repurposed materials to create original wearable art. We will focus on concepts of design process, garment construction, and final presentation. Students will have the option to make a garment from scratch or alter something from their wardrobe.

Adventures in Cardboard ($175)

Rising K – 4th Grade
July 17 – July 21
9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Come make amazing things at Adventures in Cardboard! In this session, campers will learn how to use tinkering tools and build cost-effective projects, big and small, out of cardboard. Each day includes skill-building activities, project prompts like costuming, vehicles, models, and mechanisms, and open build time to make projects as wild as our imaginations! Campers will be encouraged and supported to use their creativity to drive their camp experience!

Our academic camps are offered through The Learning Center (TLC) at Francis Parker. Students who benefit from intensive academic review before heading back to school can participate in small groups to learn and have fun!

Lower School Reading Rocks ($200)

July 24 – July 28
K – 2nd Grade: 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.
3rd – 4th Grade: 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
For rising kindergarten – 2nd grade students, sessions will focus on ensuring student knowledge of all letters and sounds, further developing their phonemic awareness, and learning strategies for decoding unknown words. For rising 3rd and 4th graders, sessions will focus on strategies to read and spell complex multisyllable words and strengthen their reading fluency.

Lower School Math Skills ($200)

July 24 – July 28
K – 2nd Grade: 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
3rd – 4th Grade: 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.
Sessions will focus on solidifying their foundational math skills by strengthening the basics of number sense, place value, and addition and subtraction facts. This camp will help students move beyond memorization and focus on understanding the basic concepts of mathematics.

Middle School Math Fact Fluency ($200)

July 17 – July 21
5th – 8th Grade
Session 1: 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.
Session 2: 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Sessions will focus on solidifying foundational math facts necessary for all levels of math. Math facts will be reviewed and reinforced through a variety of hands-on, interactive games and activities each day.

Prepare to Launch ($100)

5th – 8th Grade
Week/Time: TBD
Middle School students who want to ensure they are organized and ready for the first day of school can get an early start. Students will have the opportunity to have all the necessary supplies labeled, set up their lockers and cubbies, and discuss general study skills for a strong start to the school year. Two hour-long sessions will be scheduled at the beginning of August.

Prep for Success ($350)

9th Grade
July 24 – July 28

We encourage all students entering 9th grade who wish to sharpen their academic, organizational, and study skills to attend this course. It is designed for students who would benefit from extra development of basic academic skills – and/or a refresher before high school starts – to prepare for the demands of their high school courses. Prep for Success features intensive, structured, and individualized small group instruction in skills essential for success at Francis Parker. Students will prepare for the demands of their academic year and meet their fellow students prior to the start of the year. There may be a small amount of homework (limited to one hour per night maximum). Prep for Success offers instruction in:

• Organizational skills
• Effective study habits
• Reading comprehension
• Basic math concepts/strategies
• Note-taking
• Essay writing
• Summer reading
• Research skills

The Athletic Department is excited to offer summer athletic camps as a fun way to develop fundamental skills in various sports. This summer we will be offering basketball, field hockey, soccer, and volleyball camps for rising 1st – 8th grade students. All camps will be held on the Goshen Campus and will be coached by former/current college players or varsity coaches. Each camper will need a mouthguard and shin guards; however, all other equipment can be provided if needed.
