Preschool Celebrates World Read Aloud Day!

"We believe that everyone should have the chance to share stories. LitWorld founded World Read Aloud Day in 2010 to celebrate the power of reading aloud to create community and amplify new stories, and to advocate for literacy as a foundational human right. Since then, World Read Aloud Day has evolved into a global movement of millions of readers, writers, and listeners from communities all across the world coming together to honor the joy and power of reading and sharing stories, and continue expanding the definition and scope of global literacy. Every year, World Read Aloud Day has been one of the top trending hashtags on Twitter, celebrated by millions of people in over 170 countries. From celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker and Chelsea Clinton to students of all ages from around the globe, World Read Aloud Day brings us together to celebrate the unique impact of sharing stories." https://www.litworld.org/learn-more-about-wrad

COVID-19 Testing Updates

COVID-19 Testing Thanks to a new partnership with Bluewater, we are offering take-home oral rinse PCR tests. While these are not nasal swabs, they are still PCR tests and are just as efficacious as the nasal swab PCR tests. We are so excited to be able to offer an option that will save families the time and hassle that we know testing has caused over the last several weeks. Each student will receive one test kit on Tuesday, January 25, and more are available in the front office on each campus as needed. We are not requiring everyone to take a test; rather, we want families to have this test on hand in case someone develops symptoms or is exposed. Immediate family members may also take advantage of this testing; students or parents may pick up additional test kits on an as-needed basis. Instructions are on this flier. Any time a test is needed – either due to symptoms or to exposure – parents should simply: Register the student or family member at this link (registration must be done every time a test is needed). Collect the oral sample as per the directions in this video. (Note: no eating or drinking 30 minutes ahead of collection, including water.) Bring the sample to either campus Monday - Friday (regardless of where the student/family is enrolled). The collection drop-off on the Goshen Campus is in the Front Lobby and on the Downtown Campus is at the Front Desk. Print the name and date of birth of the person being tested on [...]

A Day of Learning for Faculty and Staff

On Monday, January 3, as students enjoyed one final day of Semester Break, the faculty and staff gathered on each campus for a day of professional learning to kick off the New Year! One highlight was a cross-divisional conversation in small groups about a selection of readings from Black Lives Matter At School, Teaching for Black Lives, and Teaching Blackness, Loving Blackness, and Exploring Identity. We took some time to read articles targeted to education professionals working with different age groups. One focused on talking with younger children about skin color and differences; another reflected the experiences of Black students in a majority-white classroom; and the last one was written by a Black educator about the ways in which white teachers can most effectively approach students of color. While the readings focused on race, the points each made are apt for other DEIB areas such as gender, too. After reading, we then discussed them with a few colleagues, finishing by reflecting on the readings and allowing them to spark some goal-setting for the coming months as we work to improve our Cultural Competency as educators. The Lower, Middle, and High School divisions combined again within departments to discuss the synergies between Lead (LS), Advisory (MS), and Connections (HS) morning activities, as well as grading philosophies and curricular updates. Our Lead, Advisory, and Connections programs move our social and emotional learning forward in the school and help us cultivate a community of belonging, and it’s important that our teachers across divisions have time to share what this work looks like [...]
